Intentional grounding rule

Ok here ya go fans. Play situation that actually happened to me this year.

20 sec on the clock with the clock running at the end of the second quarter with the ball on the offense 45 yard line 3rd and 6. Coach for the offense tells the QB to spike the ball to stop the clock. QB lines up in the shotgun and spikes the ball. Whats the call? Officials leave this one alone let the general public have a shot.

If he's not under center it should either be grounding or a fumble...according to if he actually had his arm in a forward passing motion IMO.

It is intentional grounding from the spot of the foul. QB has to be under center in order to spike the football. He can't be in the shotgun.

Intentional grounding is a spot foul, and a Loss of Down. You must be under center to spike the ball.

Also dealing with intentional grounding, in HS there is no pocket rule. So lets say the QB rolls out and is about to go out of bounds and throws it past the LOS up in the stands, It is still intentional grounding, if there is no receiver in the area. In college the QB can throw the ball away past the LOS if he is out of the pocket.

I hate all the "protect the QB" rules.

College is bad for it, but the NFL is absolutely ridiculous about it.
